WWII submarine wreck found in Gulf of Thailand

A WWII US submarine has been found off the southeast coast of Thailand.  The USS Lagarto, a 1,500 ton Balao class vessel was lost without a trace in 1945 after attacking a convoy of Japanese ships.  The Lagarto is reportedly in good condition, sitting upright on the bottom in 225 feet of water.

And now, the discoverers are seeking US approval to explore the wreck, which is a war grave.  Warships remain the property of the nation which owned them and so the Pentagon must OK any entry or contact with the wreck.
