Submarine wreck map

Sub-Log Wreck Maps

Some updates added 11-3-2005:

Here's a submarine wreck map that's in development - mostly working now except with Internet Explorer.  It uses the same database as the Shipwreck Map that you can find listed in the menu but it focuses on just submarine wrecks and adds some search improvements that should probably be in the standard wreck map.

Most of it IS working now and new features include:

* search by a circular area (click to move the search area center, adjust the Radius to see the search area change size)

* search by nationality of vessel, and

* search by year of loss or incident.  I'm not sure how to present this, but some kind of timeline seems useful for looking at WWI and WWII sinkings.  This search feature is still disabled - I have to just decide how to do it but probably will just list by year for now.

I say 'loss or incident' because I'm including events other than just sinkings, such as collisions, fires and such that are also a part of submarine history.  For example, you can search for 'USS San Francisco' and see the location of the seamount that she hit.

Today I got most of the new submarine wreck map features working.  The search circle now moves to where you click the map, and all of the search fields except Year are working.

There are a few sample search buttons available now so you can run a search by just clicking one of them.  The nationality, search area and radius are setup automatically and you see the results of the search.

Give it a try and let me know how it works: Submarine Wreck Map

Just put up a menu link to the sub wreck map.  There's a note posted that describes a bit more.  This will probably be the main wreck map that Sub-Log hosts - I just don't have much interesting shipwreck data, compared to the great sub wreck information.
